The threat of accumulating Freezing Rain is increasing across the Western Piedmont, Foothills, and Mountains. Models are beginning to get a better handle of accumulating ice from an approaching low-pressure system Thursday night and Friday AM. A low-pressure surface system over New England will support cold and dry conditions, as the precipitation begins to fall temperatures will fall below Freezing. Freezing Rain is likely through mid-morning in areas in Pink and Dark Pink, travel impacts are possible in areas of Dark Pink. Only a tiny bit of Freezing Rain can cause significant travel impacts. A CAD (Cold AIr Damming) event will develop with a shallow cold pool near the surface. The most significant areas to see greater than .10" of Ice is from the Foothills to the Blue Ridge Escarpment. (Dark Pink)

Bottom Line: Freezing Rain and a Wintery Mix like Thursday night and Friday morning across the western Triad, Foothills, and Mountains. Amounts remain tricky, but impacts are certainly possible, I'll have my first call ice map out tonight for ice accretion. This will be a decent memory by Friday afternoon! Stay tuned for updates across this area.
